Be inspired by the outback space, colours, lifestyle and characters

If you’re looking for creative inspiration or just a place for your group to get away from their everyday environment and explore something new, Longreach has big possibilities.

Writers’ groups, art groups, music groups, photography groups, choirs and birdwatching groups can all find new perspectives in outback Queensland.

Longreach in summer is the real deal. This is the outback when the tourists have left and the silence is almost tangible away from the town itself.

It’s hot. No denying it’s hot. But the early morning and early evenings are beautiful with sunrise and sunset hues across vast landscapes or settling gently in the billabongs or on old homestead buildings. For painting, drawing, poetry or photography, the light and colour inspire total reinvention.

When the real heat of the day sets in, you can hold creative workshops in our air-conditioned The Welcome Home outback-themed group rooms or concentrate on individual creative endeavours in your spacious Outback Accommodation.

We’re happy to help you find the locations to inspire and can transport you there in our mini-bus. We can arrange local characters to pose for portraits or possibly a bush poet to explain the tradition and recite a few poems. If you’re a music group or choir, practice to your heart’s content and our local aged care home would love to be your audience for a performance!

For groups of 25 or more, we can arrange a breakfast cruise on the Thomson River when the outback is coming to life in the early morning. It’s a paradise for bird-watchers and any lovers of the Australian bush.

Take advantage of summer rates at our accommodation. Contact us for our Groups Planning Kit and our group booking consultants can also advise you on air or coach travel options.

Please note our usual Outback Pioneers experiences do not run in summer but some of the other local attractions such as Qantas Founders Museum and Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame remain open.
