Stay pioneer-style in the heritage heart of Longreach

Longreach’s best accommodation with the unique character of outback Queensland

Outback Pioneers invites you to kick off your boots in heritage-themed accommodation that is inspired by stagecoach travel and the style of the pioneer era.

At The Staging Post in the heritage heart of Longreach, you’ll be living and dreaming the outback story. This boutique accommodation would have impressed the ladies and gentleman arriving on the Cobb & Co coach but also has everything for today’s travellers rolling into town in dusty cars or stepping off a plane. All rooms have ensuites, very comfortable beds, air-conditioning, TV and free Wi-Fi – plus clever pioneer-inspired features and lovingly-crafted quirks that create an unforgettable sense of place.

It’s all a few steps from The Welcome Home where big breakfasts and outback dining provide fuel for your days of outback exploration.

The Staging Post

There’s a range of rooms to suit everyone at The Staging Post and each is designed to immerse you in a unique outback experience.

This rustic-luxe accommodation takes its inspiration from the stables where the Cobb & Co horse teams were changed after their overland journeys. . Your room sleeps three people (1 x queen, 1 x single), has an ensuite with a unique rain-shower, free wifi and is fully air-conditioned. There’s everything you need to make tea or coffee – the milk is in the repurposed old cabinet that contains a milk-fridge! The Stables Family Room sleeps four (1x queen, 3 x single). The Stables are set in a courtyard garden with outback landscaping. There is vehicle access for loading and unloading and free street parking.

THE OUTRIDERS HUTS (coming soon)

The outriders helped protect the mail and passengers on the stagecoach and you can imagine their nights in these free-standing ‘huts’ where the influence of the past is never far away. Each hut sleeps 3, and has a quirky shower, simple self-catering facilities, air-conditioning and free wifi. The Outriders Huts are set in a courtyard garden with outback landscaping. There is vehicle access for loading and unloading and free street parking.

Alongside the stagecoach yard, these rooms are a contemporary reimagining of a stagecoach inn. Here long-distance travellers will awake in a different world where the decor is early-Australian and the horses are being prepared nearby. Refurbished in 2021, the rooms sleep two people and feature a shower, self-catering kitchen, free wifi and air-conditioning. The Staging Post has a shared, shaded outdoor seating area with long tables for a get-together and there is free parking in Magpie Lane behind the accommodation.

We’re open year-round but book early for the April-October holiday season.
