About this experience

It’s an early start and the long, open road to Winton beckons. Travelling the two hours to Winton from Longreach, you really get a sense of the vastness of our country and the rich colours of the land. And then, in Winton, you’re in a fascinating outback town known for its Banjo Paterson history and dinosaur discoveries.

This is where Waltzing Matilda was first performed in the famous North Gregory Hotel and where the outback film industry finds many an evocative location. It’s the home of the award-winning Australian Age of Dinosaurs museum, where incredible stories come to life. And it celebrates its heritage with the distinctive Waltzing Matilda Centre, where you can explore one of Australia’s favourite songs.

From our guests

This was a truly unique adventure from the get-go when a true local Outback Pioneer ambassador Richard arrived at my hotel on the dot of 6.45am. Got to hear a true local tell us what it is like to be a Longreacher on our way out to Winton… Would 100% recommend this company to immerse you into the local culture and area.

Patricia V

Great commentary from Richard with very funny stories. Comfortable bus and well organised. Everything ran smoothly. Great experience at all attractions.

Michael L

The absolute highlight though for me was the bus day trip to Winton to the Dinosaur Museum. Richard was our driver and what a fantastic storyteller he is. He held us spellbound for the entire journey recalling stories of his childhood growing up in the bush.

FAQs

Is this experience suitable for children?

This is a long day for little ones and there is quite a lot of commentary and walking at the Australian Age of Dinosaurs museum. The Waltzing Matilda Centre doesn’t cater to youngsters specifically. Having said that, children are welcome to accompany parents if the parents can add the extra input to keep them entertained.

How far in advance do I need to book?

This varies depending on the experience and month. We encourage you to book as soon as you know your travel dates to be sure of your place, especially in the peak months of June to August.
