The Welcome Home welcomes you to Longreach

The Welcome Home

The hub of Outback Pioneers’ tourism operations is The Welcome Home. The Kinnon family have restored the original Welcome Home Hotel in the heritage heart of town. It is now a booking office, accommodation reception, dining and tea room.

When you come to Longreach, start here for warm hospitality, good food and entry to another world. Check in for The Staging Post accommodation, pick up your tickets and become an outback pioneer! The 1920s building is at 128 Eagle Street.

Our booking office

Our friendly crew will welcome you between 8.00am and 6.00pm every day during the April-October season. You will need to pick up your tickets here if you’ve booked online and you can make any additional Outback Pioneers reservations, arrange a billy-can lunch or check out other things to do.

The Staging Post reception

If you’ve booked into The Staging Post, our reception for both The Stables and The Coach Inn is at The Welcome Home. Check in and pick up your keys between 3pm and 6pm and get ready to relax in your room – either just across the street or a couple of minutes walk behind the building. Please return your keys here by 10am when you’re checking out.

Relax in our parlour

Adjoining the booking office is the parlour area where visitors are welcome to browse the tourist information, make a cup of tea and coffee and relax. It’s a great spot to rest after your journey and get more ideas for your visit to the region.

Taste the outback

Whether it’s a big buffet breakfast, ‘smoko’ (morning coffee or tea), a light lunch or afternoon tea and scones, The Welcome Home is convenient and guaranteed to serve up delicious fare from the outback kitchen. In the evenings, there’s the Stonegrill Experience or Country Classics dining, depending on the day or the week. See our Dining page for more details.

Bowen Downs corner and memorabilia

Throughout The Welcome Home building there are pioneer artefacts to see. Check out the Bowen Downs corner where you can learn more about the history of the famous station. Our Nogo Station was once part of Bowen Downs. You’re welcome to walk through to the back dining area and have a look around!

Pioneer selfie

We have a great pioneer wardrobe at The Welcome Home where you can dress yourself up with clothing and accessories for a selfie. There’s a $15 per person charge – get your ticket from the booking office and we’ll point you in the right direction.
