About this experience

You rarely feel closer to the iconic Australian life than when you’re on an outback station. This signature working station visit helps you appreciate the size of stations, their isolation, and the magnitude of the challenges they face. Although Nogo is only 20 minutes drive from Longreach, you’ll find yourself in a different world.

Your Outback Pioneers host will keep you enthralled with tales of pioneering station life, past and present. You’ll discover the merino story and meet the merinos in the historic woolsheds, you’ll join your host on the water run, you’ll see the ruins of Captain Starlight’s famous stockyards and you’ll see domestic animals, feral animals and wildlife on the sunlit plains.

From our guests

I attended the Nogo Station Tour, and found it extremely informative, knowledgeable, and overall a great tour! Loved every minute of it! Highly recommend it, even if you have an agricultural background.

Emma B

Really enjoyed this authentic family run station tour. Jeremy explained the area based on his growing up here in a knowledgeable but personable, fun way.

I would definitely recommend this tour experience in Longreach.

Judi O

We loved our tour to Nogo Station, laughing lots about Richard’s stories but also hearing about the outback life in the harsh drought conditions. Jeremy explained the shearing process in the shearing shed – he should be on TV that fella!

FAQs

How far in advance do I need to book?

This varies depending on the experience and month. We encourage you to book as soon as you know your travel dates to be sure of your place, especially in the peak months of June to August. If you have just arrived in town, we’re happy to accept bookings on the day if we still have places available.

Can I change my booking date?

Yes, you can change your date up to 24 hours before the experience departure, if we run the experience on the day you prefer and if we still have availability on that day. Please call our reservations crew on 07 4658 1776 to arrange this.

Which cards count as concession cards?

We only accept Australian Pensioner Concession Cards.

How do I waitlist for a cancellation?

Please give our reservation crew a call on 07 4658 1776 if there is no availability online and we’ll happily put you on a waitlist.

Do you offer a transfer from my accommodation?

Yes, this tour picks up from the major Longreach town and Ilfracombe Road accommodation and tourist parks. Select your accommodation when booking online or tell our booking crew.

How do we arrange the transfer?

Simply select your accommodation when you book online or tell us where you are staying when you make a reservation by phone. If you haven’t chosen your accommodation yet, you can let us know later by phone or email – at least 12 hours in advance, please.

What time should we be ready for pick-up?

The coach pick-ups start at 7.45am. Please see your booking confirmation and ticket for details as times may vary.

How do I let you know my dietary requirements?

There are options on the online booking form to request vegetarian, vegan and other special diets. You can also tell us when you make a phone reservation. We need to know at least 24 hours in advance of the experience departure to arrange special dietary meals.

Is this experience suitable for those with bad backs?

The coach and open-top bus are quite comfortable. The tracks can be a bit bumpy but we travel fairly slowly.

Is there disability and wheelchair access?

Unfortunately, wheelchair access to the bus and shearing shed is impossible and the bush camp site is rocky and uneven. If you have enough mobility to manage the steps and a steep ramp, we can help you.

Are there toilets at Nogo?

Yes, there are toilets at the shearing shed and the bush camp.

Can we see inside the homestead?

You’ll pass the homestead for photos but this is home for one of the Kinnons. Station life is too busy here at the moment to host visitors!

Are there seats for the saddlebag lunch?

Most people sit on logs but there are also chairs if you can’t manage the logs comfortably.

Can I bring my dog?

For safety reasons and as most of our experiences include other animals, we do not allow dogs (except trained and registered assistance dogs). If you need dog minding, Longreach Veterinary Services can help.
