Nogo Station Experience

Immerse yourself in the real outback life as you explore this historic working station.

The homestead. The history. The legends. The living reality. It all comes together at Nogo Station, once part of Bowen Downs and now the home of Abigail (née Kinnon). Embrace the pioneering spirit on our station safari by open-top, overlander bus! See where legendary local hero Captain Starlight branded his stolen cattle! Meet an inspiring shearer in our historic shearing sheds! Visit the typical Queenslander homestead for a huge home-baked smoko. And more…

It was a little over 20 kilometres from here that Banjo Paterson wrote about the ‘vision splendid of sunlit plains extended’. See through his eyes as you ride our station safari double-decker with a spectacular view of the vast plains where wedge-tailed eagles fly and local wildlife mingles with iconic cattle breeds, stock-horses and the famous merino sheep. Keep your camera handy as we look out for outback desert camels, kangaroos, emus, wild donkeys and more.

Then visit a typical outback billabong where Captain’s Starlight’s camp has been recreated and see the ruins of his stockyards, which have been here over a century.

You haven’t understood the Longreach story until you’ve understood the role of sheep. Inside our historic shearing shed, you’ll meet our champion shearer, Deanna, who will demonstrate her skills and introduce you to the world of the legendary shearers who helped build Australia’s prosperity.

Back at the homestead, you’ll soak in the station’s history as you explore some of the rooms and sense what life would have been like here in the pioneering past. Learn about women of the homestead, see where Abigail creates her Abigail’s Outback Kitchen range and taste some of the treats for yourself at the country-style ‘smoko’ (morning tea)!

This is the place where pioneering past and present comes together and where you can immerse yourself in the wild outback landscape and get up close to our outback life.
